The Applegate Inn was originally built by Rudolph Dammann in 1864.   The two story log cabin was likely built using a kiln on the property.  Rudolph Dammann served Augusta as a constable, post rider, and also as an undertaker.   Some years later, in 1881, Dammann set up a liquor store on his property and also made and sold cigars.   

Additions were made to the log cabin in the 1930’s and again in the 1980’s.  The property has served as a bed and breakfast for many years.  

Much of the charm of the 1864 log cabin still remains, such as 24 inch stone walls, original bricks,  logs and flooring. 

After Rudolph Dammann sold the property, it was aquired by Anna and Bob Parks.  Anna was a healer and midwife who often assisted Dr. Hampson Strother Clay with deliveries.    Dr. Clay built the house where the HS Clay House Bed and Breakfast is located.

From 2000 to 2005, the property was converted to a bed and breakfast called the Old Town Augusta Inn.  In 2006, the property was purchased by Lynn and Bob Hofer, who re-opened it as the Applegate B&B.  They ran the Applegate from 200 to 2020.   

In 2023, the property was purchased by its current owner, Kelly Dolan, who looks forward to carrying on the legacy created by Lynn and Bob.
