Discover The Applegate Inn: The Story Behind Our Charming Augusta B&B
The Applegate Inn, a historic Bed & Breakfast in Augusta, MO, was originally constructed by Rudolph Dammann in 1864. This two-story log cabin, built with materials likely kiln-fired on the property, has been a cornerstone of Augusta’s history.
Rudolph Dammann served the community in various roles, including constable, post rider, and undertaker. In 1881, he expanded his ventures by establishing a liquor store on his land and also began making and selling cigars. Today, The Applegate Inn preserves this rich heritage while offering modern comfort in the heart of Missouri Wine Country.

The Applegate Inn, a cherished Bed & Breakfast in Augusta, MO, has a rich history of evolution and charm. Originally constructed in 1864, the log cabin saw significant additions in the 1930s and 1980s, enhancing its historic appeal while preserving its original character.
Much of the charm of the 1864 log cabin remains, including its 24-inch stone walls, original bricks, logs, and flooring. After Rudolph Dammann sold the property, it was acquired by Anna and Bob Parks. Anna, a healer and midwife, frequently assisted Dr. Hampson Strother Clay with deliveries. Dr. Clay is also known for building the H.S. Clay House Bed & Breakfast.
From 2000 to 2005, the property operated as the Old Town Augusta Inn. In 2006, Lynn and Bob Hofer purchased and rebranded it as The Applegate B&B, running it successfully until 2020. In 2023, the property was acquired by its current owner, Kelly Dolan, who is excited to continue the legacy of The Applegate Inn.

I cannot rave about this place enough. What an incredible, thoughtful host. The place is incredibly charming and cozy. This was my first bed and breakfast experience, and it set the bar very high. A new hot tub made the weekend even better!

Jay
I cant say enough good things about Kelly and the HS Clay House. Great atmosphere, really great breakfast. Loads of snacks and a refrigerator full of drinks. And always greeted by a warm smile from Kelly. Hot tub was soothing on the Katy Trail bicycle aches, too.
